I have a 2000 GOLF GTI 1.8T with an alarm system that seemed to have broke over night. I drove my car last night and it was fine, but woke up this morning to find out that the remote key would not work. Not only that, the alarm is armed on the car at all times... even when running, and unlocked. It goes off when the passenger door is opened, the trunk is opened, or when the car starts. It goes off for about 30 seconds then stops. I tried replacing on the battery on the key too and it still doesnt work. So i think it's something to do with the wiring? This literally happened over night. The alarm is armed even if the car is unlocked and or running. I can't start the car with out it going off. Any suggestions?

That is likely an aftermarket alarm and we will have no info on it. You need to take it to the people that sell those. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I personally don't think that would be the case because i still have the stock remote key, Which suddenly stopped working. I even replaced the battery on it.

If you're sure that is the factory transmitter, then it's going to need a factory scan tool to even look into it. It could be just reprogramming but I doubt it. Either way it requires the scanner.

I have been doing some research on Google for a temporary fix. Do you think taking out the central lock fuses disable the alarm? Or do you think i should go under the dash under the steering wheel and take out the alarm fuse there?

Believed to be a factory set up. OP - if it could be defeated as easily as removing a fuse what would be the point of an alarm system at all? For that matter if it's "armed" and still runs is there any point in having it at all? I'd seek out how to properly disable it permanently and do something else non electrical or not part of the car (a locater something) if that worried about it being stolen, T

akrause1795 You have a couple posts on this car, all electrical problems that don't seem related to each other but mentioned it began with wetness. Has this car been flooded not just rain water? If so or just anyway get some electrical help from a shop and inspect the level it rose if not known for traces of mud/dirt and what got wet. Alarms and assorted junk get just wired in with cheap junk and even done right don't like getting soaked. If this is a flooded car it's a reason to total out new ones as there's no end to what problems come up. No kidding, flooded cars can easily be no longer worth fixing and getting stuck all the time with strange problems even when the best try to cover up flood damaged cars. You never do dry the dirty water out of every place it got in, T
