2000 4-Runner won't turn over

2000 4-Runner won't turn over

I replaced the battery but it still won't turn over. I think it's the starter relay. Any idea's on troubleshooting without having to buy a relay. Rich

Follow the pos battery cable and test for voltage all the way. The relay for a starter would be the solonoid and I think this is a piggy back job on the starter so if you find it the problem it can be replaced by itself or should come with a new starter. Chase where the current gets to and if all that seems right then hit back as there is some more to test out,

Does it crank a little? or does it do nothing on turn of the key?

I doesn't crank at all. If I turn on the lights they will dim when I turn the key.

I saw what looks like a big fuse about 2"x2" that's in a black case right under the engine hood. It say's starter relay Toyota.

Ok: Try giving the thing a tap or swap it with another in that box - preferrably A/C if it's the exact same part # only,

I dunno if it will be your start relay. Your headlights dim cause it takes a bit of power to crank the starter motor. I am thinking it may be the starter solenoid. Find your starter, the solenoid will be the thing with wires coming from it. Make sure wires are securely on there. Give it a few taps with the handle of a screwdriver and see if it starts. If it does, then your up for a new solenid.
