This is my first car, a 1999 ford escort sport. since i brought it i have been having problems with it. The service engine light is on and i went to have a diagnostic and they told me i just need a new speed censor. The horn or speedometer never worked on the car. And the past week and a half the cd player stopped working. Also the driver side window sometimes doesn't go up and the tail light sometimes goes off and sometimes goes off. Last night while i was on the express way my head lights started dimming and cut off as did the radio. I exited the e-way to get away from traffic and when i got off the car entirely shut off before it did so it started shaking a bit before hand. With all of these problems is it worth keeping the car and getting it fixed. what do you think will be needed to fix it

The dimming headlights, running rough then quiting on you is likely that the alternator stopped charging. Headlights and fuel pump will take down a battery fairly quickly.

You listed quite an assortment of electrical problems and I can't think of one common reason for them all. Has this car been messed around with a lot for stereo stuff, anti-theft, remote starter - things like that? That could mess with some wiring if stuff was just installed by a novice just tapping into whatever wires were close and had power for something else.

Only you can decide whether or not to bail out of this car. At the moment you need the senser, probably an alternator, and the wiring problems might be simpler than they sound when it's checked out.

Are you planning to do any of the work yourself? Can you at least get it somewhere for an estimate for problems right now and decide from there?
