Frown Please help i have a 1999 buick lesabre which has never given me any problems until about two or more months ago. i went out to start car in morning as i was waiting for my son the car stalled out i tried to start and it would not i waited maybe a couple more seconds and car started. now about two weeks ago my car stalled again i tried to start it would not this time it took about 10 to 15 minutes before it started. i got it started and drove it to my mechanic who still has my car which he says its electrical and it will now not start at all and he cannot figure it out and told me that i would have to get it towed to a electrician can someone please help me. could it be that serious of a problem when it would start for me. and being a mechanic for many years why can't he figure it out?

Good question! If he can't narrow it down at least to what it lacks - like no fuel, no spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse and all on time then he should refer you to a mechanic,

I appreciate your feedback. he did narrow it down he said its got to be electrical. what does that mean? And shouldn't he be able to get it to run again?

That's not narrowing it down as fuel pump is electrical, timing is electrical, spark is electrical and injector pulse pulse is electrical among a bazillion things. It should demonstrate lack of fuel delivery, lack of spark or perhaps both but just saying it's electrical is a bit short to you.

I'm not trying to say that everything that could be wrong is easy to diagnose but you certainly can narrow it down,

Not if he's a R&R guy.

What some people don't realize is that there is different levels and jobs in the automotive repair field. With any repair there are always 2 things, the diagnosis and the repair. Most techs do both but every shop has just R&R guys (and a few shops have just diag guys, that diagnose only). They do repair work only (remove & replace this or that) and if they are fast and accurate, can actually make some good money but they don't do diag work....

The best job in the shop where you'll make the most money in the shortest amount of time is a diag...

The worst job in the shop where you'll make almost no money & it can take all day is a diag....

Sounds like this guy knows his limitations and its actually a good thing....He's not gonna fry or tear something up.....You tell him what the problem is and I guarantee he could get your car running....

He's already passed on the job......Don't try to force him to do something he's not trained or tooled to do..........
