1999 Grand Prix SE won't start and key stuck in ignition

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE that won't start. I had the starter replaced 2 weeks ago (as the place i took it to said that that was the problem). $350. There WAS battery power then when I'd try to turn the car on, so I guess thats why they went with the starter.
Now there is no sign of power when in the on position and the key won't come out of the ignition. A tow truck jumped me the first time it happened and the car started up and the key came out when i got home. But trying it again the same thing happened. I had it jumped again by a friend, the key came out at the end of the drive, but is now stuck again and no power. I can't for the life of me understand what the key has to do with the battery. A friend tested the battery and said it was fine as well as the alternator.

Can the key turn in the barrell between OFF, ACC and ON? Also, when you try and start the car what happens? Nothing, click, slow winding noise, fast winding noise but no start.

well, we finally had it looked at, and the guy told us it was the battery. So we paid way too much for a battery and now it seems to be working. I just don't understand why the key would be stuck in the ignition if it was just the battery. But, no problems yet. Thanks for your reply.

The key wont come out on these cars when battery is drained or there is no battery in them at all i found that out when I did a motor swap on mine!
