Hello All,
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 2WD 3.0 Liter. I was hit from behind and it broke the lens over the tail light and the backup light. I replaced both and when I did a light check, I noticed that all lights worked save the brake lights. The backup lights, hazards, blinkers, even the rear lights that light up when you turn on your headlights (the dim red ones) work. But when you hit the brakes, no brake lights.

Given then the red lights come on when I turn on my headlights I assumed it was a fuse, but none appear to be broken. I am not sure when the brake lights stopped working, so I can't be certain if they stopped working when I replaced the light cover/lens; in the accident; or if this predates all that.

Any thoughts on where I might go looking to figure out/fix this problem?

Does the 3rd (high mount) brake light work?

No, doesn't look like it.

Then check for constant power coming into the brake light switch under the dash and power going back out with the brake applied.
