1998 ford mustang 4.6l cigarette lighter wont work

the cigarette lighter wont work. checked 30 amp fuse, good. I used a prob to check for ground from the black ground wire, that is good. i have to apply power with my prob for the cigarette lighter to work. when checking for power from the blue/white wire when connected and lighter is pushed in, i get a ground reading on my prob display. what should i check now? Jesus is good.

vernon; Yes, Jesus is good. Don't know where I'd be without Him. (Yes...I do). This could be as simple as a faulty element or recepticle? If you have power to the recepticle, and a good ground.....? Loren SW Washington

To add: Vernon - if a real cigarette lighter (makes hot element) they use a couple different ones it you wanted heat - wrong ones won't work and if used for lighting cigarettes they don't last. Check out putting in the same size power port for 12v items which is much better as a port. If you want fire get a 99 cent Bic. Seriously - real lighter sockets make lousy power ports and frequently placed to be annoying to use. Check for an under dash, out of way second port (any parts outlet - even department stores, camping sections etc) and fuse in one in a better place than OE. Sound silly but don't use cigarette lighters to light cigarettes! They gunk up, rust in there, and blow fuses pretty fast if used! If you just wire in a second port do plug either if coins or things can fall into the hole - common to short out from that in some, T

Tom; Can't count how many dimes I've pulled out of receptacles! My truck has a lighter in the ashtray, a power-point low on the dash, and another in the center console. Use all of them. (but, not for coin storage) Loren SW Washington

You wont believe this but, my 98 stang that 30 amp fuse you speak of is for the seats. Check the lower left 25 amp fuse that one is for the aux power and lighter. What a fluke!
