1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo panel light problem

When I turn on the headlights all of the panel lights in the car are nice and bright......for about 30 seconds, and then they dim. If I gently nudge the switch to the head lights they will pop back to bright (the panel lights) and stay that way if I want to drive with my left index finger pressing on the switch. The cigarette lighter and the "power" source next to the lighter do not work either. Do you think this is a big wiring deal or something pretty simple?
