1996 ranger tail light will not turn on Sign In

I have a 96 XL ranger 2.3 OL engine 4cyl/standard transmission, and the problem that I am having is that the left brake light does not turn on when the headlights switch is turn on at night. when the brake light pedal is depressed both the left and right brake lights are on,even the backup and turn signal lights work, its just the one for the night light.
I have even change the bulb, fuse (all), clean the contacts, but problem is still not resolved. I greatly need help with this issue so that I could get a safty inspection and not to be able to fail.

Thanks

bnrr; This sounds like a lack of ground. Check with a test light to see if you are getting power and ground to the socket. There are two contacts in the socket. One is for turn and brake, the other for tail.

Hey Loren, once again I would like to thank you for the great advice you had given me in my first post. the issue with the brake lights is solved. as computer technician we always test a hardware that isn't working to a new computer to see if it does work with it. so since the socket can be disconnected, I remove it and switch it to right side, and used the same bulb from the right. lo and behold it works! remove the bulb and used the bulb from the left, it did not work at all. I put back the left socket and the working bulb back to left and it work just fine. so in this case it was just the bulb itself, right size but wrong type. went out and bought the correct bulb, this time at the dealer. now everything is working just great and I am able to get my ranger to a safty inspection. once agian thank you for a great help.
