1996 maxima fuse box problem

I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE. I have been having an electrical problem with it for several months and a mechanic thinks it's the fuse box. I would like to try to get a second opinion before I spent a ton of money to get it fixed. At intermittant times, the guages (except fuel) quit working. Also sometimes the fan will quit as well as the power windows. I have on occaision noticed the turn signals, rear window defroster and A/C does not work. (all intermittantly) Usually, when I shut off the car and restart it, everything comes back on. I have also been able to push on one of the relay's and things would come back on. The original place I took it started out replacing the ignition switch and one of the relay's but that didn't seem to help. I took it to another shop and they think it's the fusebox. Is there any way to test to see if it is indeed the fusebox that's the problem??

Just from what you are saying, and with me not seeing it personally, it could be the fuse box. I would get a 2nd opinion from someone else as well, just to be sure. Have they done the diagnostic check on it? Any fault codes? Could be that, or you wiring harness is all messed up with broken wires everywhere, but this only happens when say a rat or mouse has chewed wires which is extremely rare. In summary, like i said, without seeing it, could be fuse box, but get a 2nd opinion and get it diagnosed.

Yes, they ran a diagnostic test and it kept coming back that one of the relays were bad. The relay was replaced but the problem still occured. They bent the prongs in the box where the relay makes contact to make a tighter fit. Now, the fan will continue to run, but the guages, power windows still don't work intermittantly. I was driving the car last night and all was well until I slowed for a stop sign and used the turn signal. At the instant I hit the turn signal, the guages, windows, turn signal, rear window defroster quit working. The fan continued to run (unlike prior to bending the prongs), but the climate control didn't seem to be working. The A/C light wouldn't come on, and it didn't feel like the temperature of the air coming out of the vents would change when I adjusted the temperature knob. Again, once I shut off the car and started it back up, everything worked fine. I drove the car this morning without incident. It seems to be pretty random when things go out.

Since bending the prongs trick worked to some degree it leads to the solution. I haven't taken out a fues box in quite a while but last one that was erratic like this and not blowing fuses was the connection behind the box to a connector block that had the spade prongs and I gave them all a little twist and that problem was solved for good with that vehicle.
I have no idea how that happened or why it needed that. That was the luckiest day and I checked that first after finding no power at the fuses at all. That one had been erratic and you just know things like that don't show up when you check but it stayed broken and instantly fixed it that day. I think what lead me there is just touching the area made some things work.
That happened to be a Chevrolet but I don't think it was a GM problem - just luck,
