1996 Toyota Camry, 4 door, 6 cyl. 178,000 miles I appreciate any help. My wife was driving home on the freeway and all ofa sudden the car lost power, lights dimmed, still had steering, the car was real "jerky" and the spedometer would go from 5 mph down to 0 and back and forth real quick. she had her foot all the way on the gas and she "creeped home", the engine was "knocking". Hours later I came home and it cranked right up with no problem. I noticed I was able to easily pop off the connection to the neg on the battery. I then tightned it down so the neg was no longer loose. Thought it had maybe lost contact. It started up and I went for a test drive. fine until I got out to the main road and I was hitting about 45 mph and same thing happened again. I creeped home again.....turned the car off. A minute later tried to crank it again. not enough battery "juice" to crank it up. Let it sit overnight and first thing this am got up and it cranked right up. I also noticed the fan belt was real bad....I am going to need to replace it next. The oil was running low as well. put in oil. any suggestions? thanks for the help. sorry not more technical....
