1996 S-10 Rear DS Brake Light / Turn Signal Problem

I have a 1996 S-10 6 cylinder with 4 wheel drive truck. My driver's side rear brake and turn signal lamp will not operate. The other two lamps in unit do work as does all other brake and turn signals. I have replaced the lamp, but that did not correct the problem. Checked fuse, but obviously with all other lamps working, it was fine. Any suggestions?????

You'll have to use a test light to test for power and ground in the socket. If you have no power, it could be the turn signal switch or the wire going back. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Could the socket be bad?

Ok...I have checked the two wires going to the socket with a volt-ohm meter and have determined there is no electricity getting to the socket. So at this point should I assume that the two things that could be causing the problem at this point is either a bad wire going from the turn signal switch to the turn signal/brake lamp socket or a bad turn signal switch? If one of these would be the problem, what would be the approximate cost to fix at a local repair shop?....Thanks

Don't get ahead of yourself. You still don't know what's wrong with it. All you have done so far is eliminate the light itself, assuming you tested it correctly. Now you can find that same wire comingf out of the turn signal switch and test it there.
