Hello,
I am trying to determine what to do next with a 1996 Mercury Sable GS. The ignition switch is broken common pin broken half way down the steering column. At this time I've got the ignition switch hanging and you can start the car by sliding the ignition switch. The wipers and radio work on ACC but do not work when the engine is running. This just started - previously they both worked when the ignition switch unbolted from the steering column. I replaced the ignition switch (no change in the wiper / radio problem), and I am replacing the lock cylinder, etc... But I need to figure out what's going on with the electrical system before I fix the steering column completely.
I am not concerned about the radio but I am concerned about the windshield wipers not working. All the wiring diagrams I've seen indicate the wipers should be hot in both ACC and Run. In my case they are hot in ACC but not when the Ignition switch is in the car running (ignition switch in the run position).
Is it possible a wiper relay is acting up? Works in ACC but not in the run position?
Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.
