1996 Dodge sports Dakota
2.5L V4
171k Miles

Alright, just got this truck I am using for the next few months and the running/dash lights were working perfectly for 2 days and now I can turn just the parking/running lights, but they won't stay on when I put the headlights on.

All the other lights (brake lights, reverse) work.

If the running lamps come on with the headlamp switch in the running lamp position, but the running lamps don't come on in the headlamp position, I'd guess to say you have a faulty headlamp switch.

To confirm check for battery power at the rear of the switch on the black yellow wire with the switch in both positions. If you lose power on the wire with the switch in the headlamp position, it needs a new switch.

Thank you for that, I am pretty sure you are right. I am going to try to replace it tomorrow.

This is the first older vehicle/manual I have used. Thanks a ton for the help.

Finally got around to installing a new headlight switch and it is a no go. It does the exact same thing.

Any other suggestions?

Before you replaced the switch did you check for power on the black yellow wire with the switch turned on?
