Year: 1996 Make: Daewoo Model: Nexia Engine: 1.5 Mileage: 56,000 Miles Problem: ABS warning light on steering display lights up when engine is switched on. Now and again the light clears itself, indicating normal. And then afterwards it remains permanently on. Question: For a DIY-er, what basic checks can I make? (Accessible from underneath the car i.e. wiring checks) Because if the light comes on and off over a period of time I suspect it may be a wiring fault. If so, how can I trace it? Thanks!

The only checks you can really make with out diagnostic equipment is as follows. The problem sounds like a wheel sensor fault - visually inspect the sensors and wiring by removing the wheels it is located on the hub. check for wiring cuts and ensure there is nothing obstructing the pick up on the hub assy such as grease or road depri. Secondally which is a bit tricky disconect the battery and remove the ABS computer conection and chec for corrosion an water - caused by seal failure on the connection. Thats about all you can check without going to a professional
