For 9 yrs, my "security" light has never appeared "on" before. However two (2) days before my car died, the "security" came on and stayed on. Also, that morning in starting my car, there was no clicking sound, no engine revving as I turned the key in the ignition, no kind of any sound...only the "security" light in bold red. However 10 minutes later, I started my car and it fired up w/o any problem but the "security" light remained on that day. The same routine on day two (2) which was the day I took my car into the Body & Fender guys to change my drivers side door handle & lock since I couldn't open it for some 4 months. The drivers side door handle I picked up at a junkyard in Portland fit perfectly. The lock was replaced from inside the drivers side door panel. However, once both the drivers side door handle & lock were completely fastened, the security/alarm went off via a blaring horn! The Body & Fender guys said they disconnected the battery cable and then the blaring horn went off. However, when they reconnected the battery cable, absolutely nothing worked...no lights, no sound, no nothing!

How do I restart my car again? The B & F guys are not mechanics and when seeking advice from local mechanics, all admitted unfamiliarity with security alarms. So to date, the only thing done was to reconnect the battery cables, insert the key in the ignition & turn with nothing happening.

You can try a relearn to reset the alarm. Turn the key from the off to the run position (on) and let is set for at least ten minutes (may want to hook up a battery charger), then turn direct to the start position to see if it will start, if not turn the key all the way off wait about a minute & repeat the process. Sometimes it takes up to 3 tries. The important things is not to try to start it just turn it to the run position and let is sit on for at least 10 minutes minimum.
