I just want to get this light off for the afternon so i can take it through. Is there a fuse i can disconnect just for the light and if so where would it be? If so I don't know why that would have anything to do with inspection but it would bother me too. Look for a switch and wire on side of oil pan - see if it's rubbing or just disconnect the wire, tie it away safely and it may go out. Then I'd still want to know what's wrong with that system and fix it. Be certain it's really errant and not really low on oil of course! The light is just on most of the time for no reason. Every once in a while it will go out but the doesn't seem to be any ryme or reason. And yes they failed me at the inspection station for this. Personally I hate to see folks wait for a light to check their own oil periodically relying on a device that can fail and in this case someone might just up and keep adding oil till a problem was caused by too much! The ones I've noticed use a sensor on the side of the oil pan - about the spot where oil would be 1.5 qts low in cases I've checked out. No matter - just one gave me erratic readings and I found wiring to it swinging around and bared in a spot such that when grounded it said "CHECK OIL" I sure hope you know the difference between "CHECK OIL LEVEL" AND "LOW OIL PRESSURE" which is a severe warning of a problem. Oil can be full by dipstick reading and still have an oil pressure problem so those are not to be ignored. Check for that wiring to see if something visable is wrong with it. Perhaps if there's a disconnect for that then do so such that light may go out and stay out. Anyone out there reading this should be checking oil manually on a periodic schedule. Have you looked to see if the bulb if and only if just for this item is removable without a whole project? *********** Again - I'm surprised at the inspection involvement. It's a convenience item that shouldn't have anything to do with the safe operation of the car but who knows? The first one of these without a light that came my way was a VERY early Chevy Vega if anyone remembers those and if oil wasn't full or within a quart of full the fuel pump (electric on that sucker back then!) wouldn't run to prevent you from starting an engine with low oil - an ok idea but no indication of why when all checked out on that car - just a memory from oh so long ago, T Theviper9899 New User Oct 30, 2008, 12:00 PM Post #5 of 5 (4144 views) Re: 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix "Oil Light" Sign In Thanks for the advise.
