I have a 1995 jeep cherokee that won't start. 3 days ago, I stopped at the store on the way home from work and when I got back in and tried to start it, it just buzzed like the batt was dead and then bam, nothing at all. No lights no buzzer with the key in ignition, just dead. 10 minutes later it started fine. Been starting fine until yesterday. Parked in front of the house, shut it off, went to start it and the same thing happened. Now I have nothing again. I checked the batt with a voltmeter and I have 12.6V. I know this sounds dumb, but being female, I can't locate the starter to test it and/or the solenoid. Oh, I took it through the car wash yesterday and right after that it wouldn't start.
Thanks guys

It soulds like you have a cable connection problem somewhere. It could be at the battery terminals or anywhere else the cables connect.

OK, I found the starter and solenoid, took it out, had it checked @ Autozone, they said it passed but was weak in turning and they had no test available for the solenoid. Replaced it (yes, I did with some help), reconnected everything and key in the on position, dome light worked, buzzer came on, gauges worked. Turned the key to start and it clicked and everything went dead again. So now what? I had the alternator replaced a month ago. Could the alternator be bad? I checked the radiator anti-freeze, looks good so I don't think the engine is siezed. I don't know where to go now and what to check.
Thanks

>>Could the alternator be bad?<< Yes! Especially if a rebuilt. Simple DIY test: Put a voltmeter on it and read volts. Likely reads high 13s to high 14s volts while running. Now turn blower to full blast, RWD on and lights (all high consumption items) and the volts should not drop below 13v. If battery isn't good and full charged with good connections at both ends of cables it will show up as a low charged battery most noticed for starting - by far the hardest thing a battery has to do,

Now what?
You didn't listen to a word of the advice you were given in the fist place.

Hammer Time,
Thanks, you were right. $76.00 later for a new starter/solenoid and messing with the wiring, it was a bad ground at the battery terminal. Sorry I didn't listen to you in the first place. Thanks again. :)
