I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla and when I turn the engine off the front side lights and the tail lights stay on. I can't turn them off with the light switch and when I pull the fuses that should (I think) control those lights they still don't go off. I have to disconnect the battery to get them to turn off. What is the most likely problem? Is it a faulty switch on the control column or a short somewhere else? The fuses that should result in the headlamps turning off do work. The light switch does work for turning off the headlamps as well. Neither of those work to turn off the tail light and front side lights however.

Any aftermarket modifications done that are tied in the the exterior lighting system? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Not that I know of. I had an aftermarket auto alarm installed years ago. I don't think it affects the lights.

Did you remove the 15 amp tail lamp fuse in J/B (junction block) 1 to see if they go off? J/B 1 is located left side of the dash Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You do have a short to power somewhere after that fuse. You might want to start by checking that alarm system. Sometimes they tie the alarm system into the parking lamp system, so the alarm can flash the lamps when it is tripped. Unplug the alarm module. If the module uses an external relay to trigger lighting, unplug that too. See if your lamps go off.
