Re 1994 Mercury Villager: Within minutes of locking the doors the power locks unlock by themselves. Holding down the powerlock button produces a buzzing sound as they fight against your finger pressure to relock themselves. We need to be able to securely lock up the van while parked. Can we just bypass the powerlocking function and go to manual? We tried to remove the fuse but couldn't find in the manual which fuse governed the powerlocks! Short of disconnection the battery, what can we do that will be inexpensive? We are students on a road trip using the van like a mini RV, so we need it to lock but money is tight!

Something is preventing it from locking like a door not closed all the way or the ignition key may still be in it. Even if it isn't, the module may think it is.

The doors are tightly shut, the key is out and the doors do lock initially - they sometimes stay locked for a few minutes but then unlock themselves. This has been going since yesterday morning

It may have an issue with the GEM module. You'll need a professional scan tool to test it.

We're just looking for some way to disable the power locks rather than to fix them...Smile

You can look but you won't find.

Actually ran into this on an explorer and it was an issue with a switch ended up replaceing the switch. on most older vehicles such as this you could actually unplug a lock switch and will disable the locks

You may be able to disable one door switches but you cannot disable the central locking system. The first response given was to look into door switches.
