1993 ford probe 2.5

1993 ford probe 2.5 Sign In

i have a 93 ford probe that keeps cutting off and the only way i can get it started again is take the negative cable off for a few minutes.can you tell me what the promblem may be thank you.

hi , need more info , when does it cut off ? hot or cold . driving or stopped , any recent work or repairs done , does it restart everytime , any check engine lites on so on .....Todd

yes, check engine light is on. ive checked the codes and they are 16,23,24 i believe one code is for the fuel pressure solenoid.

16=EGR valve position sensor; 23 & 24= Heated O2 sensor. If the EGR valve is 'hanging' open, will cause a stall.
Is very common on Fords for a piece of carbon to become lodged between the pintle and seat, holding the EGR open. If this is the case, EGR gaskets with a screen are available which will eliminate this problem. The O2 codes should be checked, but could be a result of the EGR problem. (If the EGR is the problem).
