1992 Honda Ballade wirring problem

hi, can someone please help me, I have a 1992 Honda Ballade that has an electrical? problem. When I start the car it runs smoothly for a couple of sec 20-30 sec. then all off a sudden the rev counter just drops down flat and the car cuts out. I start is again it takes but then only lasts 10 sec or so. other times it would last 10min and then just cut out with the rev counter just falling down flat. sometimes I'm doing about 60 mph then the car would still move on and maybe seconds later takes again with the rev counter up to normal level. other times is stays of until the car stops then i have to start it again.
also the lights in the dash board is out. I mean the lights behind the speedo and rev counter. the normal ignition lights still works, but all the other is out.
with this said I suspect that there is an electrical problem in the dash harness, so for a sort term solution i thought of pulling out the fuse for these lights on the dash thus cutting of the power to the dash board lights preventing power to go through and preventing what ever problem there nay be. but i unfortunately don't have the interior fuse box diagram.
please help, will my sort term suggestion work? or do i need to do something else.

This stalling of the engine; could have something to do with the tachometer (rev counter) but unlikely?
If it were; you removing the power fuse for the instrument cluster will not help you. You would need to disconnect the RPM signal wire to the tach; which would remove the tach from the ignition system circuit.
Again its not likely the tach; why the rpm’s are dropping is likely due to something in the ignition system shutting off and the tach is doing its job and showing you the actual RPM
I would suggest having the ignition system tested; some of the things that may be causing this are. The ignition module, the pick-up coil, the ignition coil and the list could go on & on.
All of which can be tested; it just needs to be acting up while the Tech is checking these things.
As for the dash lights; have you checked that the dimmer switch that adjusts the brightness of the dash lights, is not turned all the way down?

thank you for the reply. but while I was driving again today, i picked up some more interesting things..... so every no and again the car backfires as well, this is making me think fuel supply or air problem???
with regards to the ignition, when the car cuts out, only the rev counter drops, the rest of the instrument panel stays on as normal. the red ignition lights only comes on when the car comes to a complete halt. can it still be with the ignition? please advise...
I have checked the dash board light dim switch and it appears to be fully on. rolled all the way up.
something else i have also notice is that the digital clock is always on 1:00 it then starts counting and when the car cuts out it resets back to 1:00
another problem seems to have risen as well..... but i think it is connected to the current. sometimes when i try to start the car again after it cuts out. the engine crancks but very weakly and the rev counter shoots up to about 5-6 thousand revs but just for a split sec then drops down again. the engine did not start though. about every 70% that this happens the starter keeps on running but does not kick in to turn the motor, i switch the car off complete and pull the key out of the ignition but the starters still runs. i then have to disconnect the battery for it to stop. a few taps to the starter and everything is ok again.
with this said and that the car backfires sometimes it is really difficult for me to decide were the problem can be.
your advise would be highly appreciated.

The back fire could still be caused by the ignition system momentarily shutting off and then coming back on line. With some of the other things you say are happening; it may end up being an ignition switch?
But with every new symptom you tell us, the list of could be’s grows.
As for hitting the starter; well it might be time for a replacement starter or having this starter reconditioned; if hitting it will make it disengage.
