1992 Honda Accord - Won't start but battery good	Sign In

1992 Honda Accord
Engine: ?
Mileage 240,000

Parked the car last night. Was running great. This morning it would not start.

All internal lights are strong. Battery new 6/2010.
Hooked my other car up to jump the Honda per my friend's recommendation. No change.

The car makes no normal clicking noise when we try to start the car. I also tapped the alternator while my son turned the key. no change.

My friend says he thinks its a bad alternator but he wasn't sure. Any ideas from the car experts out there?

I don't know why your banging on the alternator. The trick is to tap the starter while someone is trying to start it.

Thanks for your reply.

I was tapping on something. Starter or ignition I don't know. The item was metal, had a lot of visible copper coil on the inside and had a belt attached to one side of it. So - was it the starter or the ignition? I'm uneducated but a willing learner.

for the record it was the alt you described .. while its good that you want to learn . you can do more harm than good. as Hammer suggested , have it towed to a shop. and after repairs ask if mechanic can give you a short tour of your eng compartment.invest in a DIY type manual (haynes)
