G'day my names Chris & thanks in advance for taking a look at my dilema.
Vehicle Details:
Year/Model: 1992 Holden Nova SLX
Engine: Toyota 4A-FE 1.6L
Auto Trans.
Basically the problem is it wont start or turn over without a jump from my Pajero. When my girlfriend 1st bought the car off a mechanic I went to pick it up, stopped at the shops on the way home and it wouldn't start, I called the guy and he took it back telling us the next day that it had a problem with the neutral switch that he'd fixed. It ran fine for about a week and then another ignition problem developed where it wouldn't start again if you turned the engine off after it got to normal operating temp. I sent it back again and he returned it the next day saying the brushes in the starter motor weren't making contact when it was hot and he'd replaced it. Then next day the problem was still there. Long story short my girlfriend was only using the car for short trips to work/school where it had time to cool down and we were sick of dealing with the guy so we just lived with it for a while. Then it stopped starting all together so I replaced the old looking battery and it was fine apart from having to let it cool down to start. Now after a few weeks it's not starting at all, I've checked the battery and it reads as fully charged, I've checked all the relays/fuses/earths and they're fine. I borrowed a friends portable jumpstarter that he uses for his 4WD and it wont start. The only way I can start it is to jump it from my pajero with the engine running. I'm not 100% but if it had something to do with the neutral switch or a relay/wiring/starter brushes, I wouldn't think a jumpstart would work. I have a manual and tried the self diagnosis feature which gives an error code 12: Engine speed signal curcuit. No idea if that has anything to do with ignition. The only other thing I can think of is the coil but it's built-in to the distributor and I dont want to go pulling it apart if it's more than likely something else. Any advice will be much appreciated.

G'day, mate. Really sounds like a battery/cable/voltage drop problem. Even though the battery was replaced, it could be defective. Assuming all of the connections are clean and tight (positive and earth), you may have poor cables. Rare, but possible.
