1991 Dodge Shadow America ignition woes Sign In
So I've sort of dug myself into a hole. When I first took ownership of the car I lost the key while it was parked at my friend's place.. OK not a very mechanically inclined person so when the guy at the parts place attempted to explain to me how to pull the ignition apart indidnt get very far at all; just loosened the tumbler a little bit.. My friend ended up finding the key and I drove it away the ignition was damages but it seemed to work fine. But one day when a mechanically inclined friend was helping me work on it (we just placed a new battery in it) it locked up and nothing would free it, so he finished the job in started and pulled the tumbler out.. It worked like this for about a month but now its right back where it was before we ripped it apart, key will not turn the ignition over.. there is a release pin in the side of the housing to remove the lock cylinder but you need to have a working key to do this.

Thank you so much! I will give that a try! I was actually looking at that thing and thinking it had something to do with it!

So to clarify i'm going to be pushing that little pin like away from the steering wheel and turning the key at the same time?

There is a button in that hole that you will be pushing but you may have to have the key in the "ON" position for it to move. Once you get the button pushed in, the key lock can be pulled right out.

 IT moves when I push the key in, I think the lock is already pulled out though did you get a chance to see the pic? Either way the car is parked at my friends house so I'm just going to give it a shot when I go there later, if it doesnt work I'll be back again with more info. I very much appreciate the help, it's my first car and I wanna ride it till it's DEAD plus, i'm gonna start pulling really early shifts at work which really sucks to take the bus to. Thanks soooo much! :)
