1989 Ford Aerostar digital speedometer and Radio

I have a 89 Ford Aerostar that until a week ago ran great, now all of a sudden the digital speedometer has gone blank (the fuel gauge side works great as does the open door display)and at the same time my factory radio started scanning all the radio stations without stopping. Any ideas what this could be and how would I go about fixing it. Money is tight so we are trying to get the information to fix it at home. Thank you for your help. We have checked all the fuses an none of them are out. We had some work done on the power steering just before this happend so I am not sure if this had something to do with it or not. This was done by a mechanic not us. I appreciate your time.

Hmmm? I'd be checking all the wiring anywhere near where PS work was done - connections, wires broken - whatever in the area,
