Hi all, i have a 1987 opel corsa 1.2 petrol car, a while ago it wouldnt start, made a clicking sound so i reset the points a few times and was driving it, then it wouldnt start again so i put in new points, while i was doing this i noticed that the connections from the plug wires to the distribitor are all greasy and have a green mould and also since i changed the points i hear a rattling from the engine, mostly when i acelerate, sounds like a loose exhaust and sometimes the car seems to miss a beat, or stutter when acelerating, almost like it has dirt in the fuel (which it hasnt) was wondering if all this could be because i made a mistake when setting the points, or because of another electrical problem? all advice appreciated and needed!

I'm not familiar with this exact car but no matter. If you have points they should be set with a dwell tach - not guessing. Rev engine and it should hold the dwell reading fairly close - if not distributor bearings may be worn and setting points gets to be impossible.
The green moss as you called it indicated corrosion on wire ends so why not just replace wires, cap, rotor and plugs and rule them all out?
Also - engines with points should have timing set after the points are known correct. I don't know what this rattle is you hear - whether it's mechanical or knock from improper timing or what - that you'll have to chase down. If this engine uses a rubber timing belt it may be making a noise and keep up with changing those as suggested by manufacturer,
