1987 grand marquis charging problem

The first thing that happened is the car died. We jump started it but it didnt last long then died again. This car has a 5.0 engine and an internal voltage regulator. My volt meter said nothing was coming out of the alt. and the battery was 20 years old so I went and bought both. I can not get this car to charge the battery. It has a new alternator a new battery and new plug going into the alternator and it dies after the battery drains. I've checked every ground wire all conections to the alt. and battery. I've even taken the alt. and battery back to the store to be checked and they are fine. I've checked the alt. while its on the car and it shows ok. Its just not getting the power to the battery. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
