I'm sorry, I just didn't fully understand because I would assume the coil would put out one long constant spark, whereas the distributor would put out short sparks when each cylinder is supposed to fire. I think I got it now.
So I bought an inline spark plug tester and got nothing in between the coil and distributor. I went ahead and replaced the coil since that one looked really old anyways and it was cheap. But I still don't have any spark.
I have heard the ignition modules on the side of my distributor are prone to failure. Do you think that could be it? I really don't know where to go from here. Should I replace that resistor?
I found this thread about a 22kohm resistor. It looks just like mine except the wires are not inline, they are coming out one end.

Spark module on side of distributors? Yes, just toss it, quit the BS it will snap off special 7/32" socket needed (OE) or just bust those off new can be zip tied on or whole distributors now not made from "cores" cheaper than fussing with it.
Said - might have gone away blow out distributors they do dust not wear out was the whole point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Out of frustration YOU and the biz take all good things out to replace like it was the thing to do was and still is not. It lasts forever only damage by messing with it!
OE was brass the junk sold new will fail and show it.
Hold on sport. This is OLD now and a work/or useful van. Nobody cares or few about them vs others.
Trucks? Ford gave up on Marine note engines spin backwards!!!!!!!!!

Zoomed in trust you find lack of spark and sure of it. Tossing parts your destroying this thing is didn't wear out this stuff.
NO KNOWN LIFE OF ELETRICAL BS this or others. Keep off the web full of lies to lead you to oblivion to sell you something.
By now you get it don't. If not just do what anyone does, take it somewhere and get it fixed! WOW, what an idea!!

I replaced the ignition control module and she finally started right up!!!
I believe the original ECM, the fuel system relay, and the ignition control module were all bad and I don't think replacing any one of them would have got her running on their own. Possibly one of them caused the others to die, but I really don't know what happened for sure. Replacing the ignition coil was probably not necessary, but it looked old as dirt and was cheap so that's fine with me.
To recap for everyone out there reading this:
Messing with and fumbling around with the relay caused the fuel pump to stop running non-stop with the engine off. After this, it stopped starting up altogether.
I ended up replacing the relay just in case.
I found that I had spark and fuel, but no electrical signal to the fuel injectors.
Replacing the ECM made the fuel injectors receive electrical signal again.
After this I lost spark so the engine still wouldn't run. Not sure how this happened but maybe cranking it over and over and testing the spark plugs against the engine block caused this.
I was at my wits end at this point and about to throw in the towel, but then decided to replace the ignition control module and I am glad I did.

Ok sounds good? If you thing it's all done we'll close this out as solved not yet.
Do just to see take an old relay see what's inside. POINTS that have to touch via a tiny electro magnet. They lose it is why I said drop it meaning drop on floor hard or whack those butt end of screwdriver.
These were pattern problems of the vintage not this late. If you cut the skirt off of a known good relay it's the same as the others just in a jam.
Good luck that it stays fixed if somehow not we'll get there,
