1986 Isuzu trooper II 2.3 , 224,000mi.
Had starter bench tested, checks ok. Wire leading from ignition to starter reads 13.5v. but won't turn over starter. If jumped from battery to starter it works fine. Not enough amps into starter? Need bigger guage wire? thanks

The large wire (battery cable) will show battery voltage, of course. You need to see if you are getting 12V to the small (exciter) wire with the ign. switch in the crank (start) mode.

Yes the primary is hot 12v. It's the exiciter that I was refering to in my post. With the ignition switch turned on, the exiciter wire is hot also 12v. Still it does'nt have enough something to throw the starter. Thanks
