1986 Ford Bronco - Ignition and Remote Start

It has become difficult to get the ignition to turn over in order to start the truck, it can take two hands. I think I may need to replace the ignition. But, I was wondering if it may be possible to bypass that need an just install a remote entry system. Does the ignition itself have to be in good shape in order for the remote entry to work?
