1977 MGB Alternator Overcharging Sign In

1977 MGB, 4 cylinder, 147,000 miles.

We are having a problem with the alternator in this vehicle overcharging. It has been replaced twice, and is having the same problem. Both times it was replaced with a rebuilt alternator, if that makes any difference. Any idea as to what is going on here?

Thanks

Being a 1977, it likely has an external voltage regulator which would be the problem.

Where would one find the external voltage regulator?

I have no idea on that one. If you expert to make any repairs on a car like that, you can't do it without having a service manual for that car so if you don't already have one, that should be your first priority.

Think it's on the firewall but guessing. Don't let it overcharge or you'll blow all light bulbs if used, the alternator will burn up and take out the battery too and who knows what else?

(Edited: Should have said DON'T allow "Voltage" where I said "overcharge" instead above and post is at it was. Yes - it can and will blow things, like head and tail lamps, dash bulbs are a pest in these critters to change out and these critters are well known for wiring issues but a lot of fun. Fixed up an MG Midget once - fun! Would fit in my trunk but still fun.)

Land/Place - world known for Lincolns which I've only owned a couple dozen of but down to three right now.
