1973 dodge swinger 318 wont stay running

i have to have a wire from the positive side of the coil to the positive side of the battery to stay running new ignition switch now with that hookup it is stalling.I think I might have burned the coil.could it be in the instrument cluster

This is the 2'nd year for transistorized ignition, eliminating the points-condensor. By "hot wiring" the system you will burn out the coil or the transistor ignition module. There is a relay on the driver side fender well with the pos batt cable going to it. I would look into this relay for probs and maybe someone could test your ignition module & make sure it's ok.
