1973 Plymouth Fury III Dash Light Question Sign In

1973 Fury III four door 360 cubic inch V8 Automatic transmission. 92,000 miles.

The small red "doors" indicator light on the dash board will not go off.

I have checked the on/off push in buttons on all four doors. They appear to be working in the normal manner.
Is this a short?

Will it run the battery down over time?

Can I just locate the bulb and take it out to turn off the light. If so how do I go about that?

Hmmm? At the age I have to some guessing and some questions.

Does the light stay on when car is off and keys out? That's some other problem than the switch as it should go out if that light was meant to light if door wasn't closed completely.

General idea on those: The push button that makes interior lights come on isn't the one for a "door ajar" light. There is usually another on the latch inside the door sensing it's not fully closed or plain open.

The real issue is if the light just stays on with key off and out. It shouldn't. If it's just annoying when the car is running then try pushing on each door such that it closes tighter to see it the light will go out. If that works you could possibly adjust the switch or move the striker so the door closes more tightly which I can explain if so,

T
