05 Chevy Equinox driver side heated seat stopped working Sign In

Hello I am new to this site and I wanted to post a question. I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox that has had all kinds of problems. The latest and greatest issue is with regard to my driver side heated seat. I used the heated seat for the first time the other night as it is just starting to cool off where I live and it worked great but this morning when I tried to use it, it would heat up only a little bit. What do I do to fix this?

Does anyone have a diagram of the heating element on an 05 Chevy Equinox for the heated seat? Is this a simple repair?

Well that is what I asked for but I guess I am not smart enough to understand the diagram I do appreciate the response.

So instead of the wiring diagram does anyone have pictures of what to do to fix my problem? Has anyone else experienced this issue? I have no clue where to start with this issue. I really want to get this fixed ASAP as winter is nearing and my leather seats will be awful cold if I can't get this issue resolved.

In that case you will need either an experienced tech .....................

or this.......

Well I saw another thread on here and they posted pictures of the seat and the element and whatnot but I tried to open the pics and they weren't on here any longer.

I appreciate the follow up. I will figure it out however I can I guess.

That's a real good way to turn a $50 job into a $500 job real quick. One electrical contact in the wrong place and you're frying modules.

This isn't a simple electrical item like a switch and a light buld. It's run through computers now and they are intolerant of any sort of sure. HT wasn't overstating that. It does require a very good knowledge of electrical circuits and proper testing procedures. With your admitted inability to interpret a wiring diagram of these circuits you can very easy make a careless mistake that would make a mountain out of a molehill. I love seeing new people come here and expand their knowledge of vehicles and learn new skills, but at this level of skill its not a DIY thing that you are likely to come out ahead on.

Re: 05 Chevy Equinox driver side heated seat stopped working Sign In

If you look at the diagram, there are heating elements in the seat cushion and seat back. Both are turned on and off by the heated seat control module. The processor in the module watches the heater switch status. When the switch is turned on by the driver, the processor allows electrical current to flow through the heating elements. There is also a temperature sensor. The sensor monitors the seat cushion temperature. Its signal is used to regulate the temperature, so it doesn't burn your butt or catch the seat on fire.

The module needs power and ground
The module needs to see a switch status, so it knows your requesting to send current through the heater elements
The module needs to know the cushion temperature from the temperature sensor in the seat
The module has to be able to close the circuit to allow current through the elements.
The elements themselves have to have a path for current to flow, so they can heat up.

All those things would have to be checked when the problem is occurring to allow you figure out which component of the system is faulty. To check them, you need an understanding of electricity and knowledge of how to check electrical circuits using meters and other test equipment.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
