Hi!
Thursday, I received my '02 Ranger back from the dealership after having the Rear Main Seal, Oil Pan Gasket, Brakes, Headlamps and Tires replaced. The Rear Main Seal was leaking into the clutch. Lots of labor involved because they said they had to remove the engine.
Drove her to work in the AM on Friday, everything seemed fine. That evening, she would not start. Of course, there is no indicator on the top of the battery to check. Co-worker jumped the battery and after a few times she started up. I turned on the headlamps while the engine was running and the engine turned off. I waited a few minutes and turned her over again. She started.
Dealership was closed so I drove her home. This morning, I opened the hood and tried to start her again. White Smoke came from the negative terminal of the battery. She did not start, however, when the key out of the ignition...there is a loud clicking sound coming from behind the dashboard. The only way to make it stop is to turn the ignition on (she doesn't start) or disconnect the battery. I took off the battery and brought it to a place to have it tested. Battery is fine.
So I pushed her into the front yard.... I can't do anything of course until Monday when the service center opens....
I am very interested in the coincidence that they just worked on it and now she is a paperweight....
Anyone have any thoughts?

Quite apparently there's an issue with the neg battery cable - probably the end is messed up. Whole cable or high quality new end might be needed or a careful cleaning up of existing one.
In all the work - removing neg battery cable is always suggested so perhaps it's had enough fooling with,
