Hi all,
I am having a longtime ongoing problem with my 3.1 liter chevy malibu w/121,000 miles. It first start a couple of years ago in the summer, when I noticed that sometimes my driver side window wouldn't roll down. If I held down the button, I could feel the window motor cranking, but the window wouldn't go down. Then a couple days later it would fix itself. Sometimes it would last for a longer period of time, but it would always at some point fix itself. Around the same time, my air conditioning started acting weird. I would have the a/c on and for no reason, it would just turn off and only the vent fan would be blowing. Obviously in the hot summer you could immediately tell when suddenly there is hot air blowing out of the vents. Again, would sometimes fix itself. Strangely enough, it really seems like these things happen when there is a high amount of humidity. Not necessarily rainy days, just really humid. A couple of times over the past year or so, the check engine light would come on, but again, after a day or so, would go off. Also, when it is really humid. Last night, all was well coming home from work. When I went out later, I started up the car and right away noticed that the automatic headlights didn't turn on, the radio wouldnt' work, none of the windows would roll down, the climate control was completely unresponsive (wouldn't even give me vent air), none of the instrumentation lighting was on, and there was a number of different idiot lights on (engine, door ajar, etc.). Today when I left for work, everything was fine except check engine was still on. When I left work, it was off. Again, it has been hot and humid these last couple of days. So...it seems to me that maybe moisture is getting into somewhere and wreaking havoc with some of my electrical systems. Do anyone have any thoughts about this and furthermore, know what to do about it? Thanks for any help/replies you can give.
Jim
