Hi, I have a Honda Accord 1990, Cylinder 2.0 litres. The car was working fine but I wanted to replace the original tape player with a new CD player. I downloaded the guide in the link www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Honda/PDF/466033.pdf The guide is useful and I followed it to the letter, until I reached the point where I needed to take 2 bolts out. I realised that my tools were too big for the job so I went to work and borrowed a mate’s tools. When I wanted to drive back home the car refused to start. It looked like the battery was totally flat, which should not be the case. No light was left on (neither the door's light nor the main light switch). I jump-stated my car and it worked fine but now, every time I stop it, it needs a jump start. One of the front light bulbs got burnt and I needed to replace it. After all this, I decided to hook the new stereo and see if it could fix the problem (i.e. I though a contact of the stereo base might be required -yes, call me dumb ). When I hooked the new stereo it worked fine for few seconds and then stopped for a few seconds then it continued working then it stopped, etc. This is the case be it the CD or radio playing (so you don’t think it could be the CD player’s problem). The stereo also stops for few seconds when I turn the car lights on. I have no idea where I could have gone wrong because all I dealt with was the stereo and its plugs (one main plug and the radio plug). The rest is just screws and bolts. I can’t see any loose cable that might be causing a short circuit. Can someone help me understand the problem and if possible repair it?

Lets start with the basics on this. Get your battery tested to make sure it's good..

Well said. That is exactly what I did and the battery turned out to be short-circuited. I checked if there was any unusual amps (or high amps) coming from the car to the battery, such as when I turn on the lights or the stereo or the cigarette lighter but I found nothing abnormal. So I replaced the battery and all the problems disappeared. Very strange the battery died at once at the same time I was changing the stereo. Whatever made the battery break must have been behind that bulb being blown. And to add to the confusion, the stereo problem of working few seconds and stoping few seconds was due to a loose cable in the adapters I bought to connect it to the car . That loose cable was the power cable. So I reattached it properly and now everything is back to normal, and I am a happy person again Thanks
