The needle moves when you push the preset buttons, but the tuner knob doesn't do anything. I'm thinking a mechanical failure like a band or a gear that is broken. What should I expect if I crack it open?

korben; If memory serves, there is a 'rubber band' that attaches to the tuner knob. You'll, more than likely, have to do some 'searching' for a replacement. Good luck.

Thank you, that's right along the lines of what I was expecting.
