HI.

I have a 1971 Super Beetle. The old cassette player was damaged and the radio didn't tune, so I bought a new one. I attached the wires exactly as the old was was wired up, but no sound. Power is fine and the tape whirs in there and the lights come on and everything but no sound at all with radio or tape. If I touch some of the speaker cables to the metal body of the car some scratchy noises come out of one of the speakers.

What the hell could be the problem? I read about amps and such and maybe having to bypass them but seeing as i simply swapped one stereo for another and didnt move anything theres no reason for it not to work, right?

2 back speakers, one front in the dash.

Ideas pls!

emu88; With the aftermarket stereo, you may not be able to use the single front speaker. Try disconnecting it. Just a guess.Unsure

I tried, the back ones still dont work. The original stereo wasnt original at all, it was from 1999 and pretty much identical to this new one. I don't get it!!

Determine which wires are power, ground, and memory. the remaining wires (hopefully there are four) will be speaker wires. Now its just a matter of figuring out which pair is left and which pair is right.
