wheel bearings Sign In

Wheel bearings almost always hum when they start going bad. sometimes it is difficult to tell which side the noise is coming from. and at normal speed they will get louder if you turn right or left. can a diagnosis be made from this. if i am driving and turning the steering wheel left and the hum gets louder, cna that tell me which front bearing is going bad?

As a rule...

If you turn to the left and the noise gets louder, then the opposite bearing is bad...and vice versa..

I just did a 01 Cavalier and it had both front bearings bad.

Thats hard to say cause sound travels....I have always jacked the front up and checked by pulling the whole tire my way and by spinning it too. When a bearing starts to go they are gonna get hot or loose, the noise is the first sign on some.....no matter which side starts its best to replace both instead of one.
