rapid repeating squeek in front left wheel. Sign In

My 99 Wrangler has developed an irritiating, rapidly repeating squeek, or chirp in the left front wheel. My mechanic pulled the wheel and looked at it, and told me that there was spindle that was sqeaking against something in the wheel. He could replace the spindle, but he didnt' recommend it - thought that the repair was too expensive, and the spindle was not causing any onter problems.

It is, howeverr, getting louder. I wonder what people think of this advise.

Did this mechanic also ask you if you want "fries" with that diagnosis? I suppose some folks don't think a wheel falling off is a problem!

There's a brake, wheel bearings, the hub for 4WD, the spindle, grease seal and a U-joint right there and they aren't designed to make a noise like you are describing and with it getting worse this is an emergency!!

I'm not there to see and witness this but a U-joint can do what you describe and is likely but any of the other moving parts there could do this noise.

Could be something simple or not and I can't know from here but it has to be found and fixed asap!

Now get going and find someone who works on Jeeps,

T
