mondeo makes funny noise when accelerating

hi there i have a V reg mondeo and today whenever i accelerate its started making a really low rumbling noise which then subsides once i'm up to 2-3k revs any ideas anyone?

Exhaust leak maybe? Try with glove and towel to plug at tail pipe and listen for noise to worsen at idle to locate if tricky,
