grinding noise from front left side

my 97 ford explorer is making a loud sometimes metal, somtimes grinding sound . it seems to be coming from the front left tire area. only when im driving can it be heard .whenever i turn left or right it cant be heard . the grinding gets faster or slows depending on my speed . is there any danger of my wheel falling off ? ohh , the right and left bearing and hub assemblys were replaced , me thinking it possibly the problem, but no luck ! please help !

If you replaced the wheel bearings what did the brakes look like while they were off doing the bearings??
