distributer ticking

Hey guys!
I have a 1986 Monte Carlo SS with a 305HO, and the distributer is making a loud ticking noise. Any ideas as to what this is? Should I replace it or is it fixable. I haven't pulled it apart at all but I can. LMK

Is this like electrical arcing tick or a mechanical tick? Either way I'd take cap off and take a look. Anthing look funny in there? Carbon thing to coil missing - check that and for traces of arcing,
