hi guys. so i have a 2002 chevy malibu. I just had it towed because it is undrivable. My wife was driving when all of a sudden it started making the noise so she pulled over. It is making a crunching/popping noise in the front passenger side and is very jerky going forward. It doesnt seem to do this in reverse. any ideas? i just replace the hub and wheel bearing assembly 2 months ago. im just kind of a backyard mechanic, so any help would be appreciated. thanks. Chevy Malibu 2002 3.1 liter V6 automatic

If back in your hands re-check your work and so far I'm thinking a brake issue but you should see something wrong or one side is much different than the other. Not all that rare, sometimes a brake pad will come off the metal backing with some wild and sudden issues, T

you nailed it... just a brake pad... wish i would have been there before she had it towed so i could have yanked the wheel off and looked at it... spent 150 for the tow for a super cheap and easy fix... thanks for the help

I've seen that with original pads but more with cheap ones in areas where rust is an issue. Check the things a day before than POW it happens. I honestly don't know a way to prevent it. Never had a Bendix or Centric brand ones do that among other quality brake brands, T PS: Sorry it took a tow but you can't drive it like that. She should be happy it didn't cause an accident!
