Tinkling noise when idle or pressing the gas -SOLVED Sign In

Recently purchased 2005 F-150 XL with the 4.2L V6, love the truck 82,000 miles. Had it inspected and it runs fine, but I noticed a strangle "metal tinkle" sound idling or when I tap the gas slightly. It isn't too loud, but it is repeatable. It doesn't make that sound long, about 2 seconds then it is gone. Usually when I idle or tap the gas. There are NO check engine lights on, they seem to have been cleared 255 starts ago and it passed the emissions with flying colors.

I ran a diagnostic and it shows...(hopefully you can read the chart below)
Component Description Value Minimum Maximum Units Result
$32 - EGR Monitor Bank 2 TID $82 - Manufacturer Defined -0.5821 -131.5514 -131.1138 inH2O Fail
$32 - EGR Monitor Bank 2 TID $83 - Manufacturer Defined -0.5821 -14.2961 131.5474 inH2O Pass
$32 - EGR Monitor Bank 2 TID $84 - Manufacturer Defined -0.5018 -131.5514 16.464 inH2O Pass
$32 - EGR Monitor Bank 2 TID $85 - Manufacturer Defined 21.9279 5.9979 131.5474 inH2O Pass

but essentially the report is this - EGR Monitor Bank 2 Fail, both the Minimum & Maximum are showing the same value.

Still don't know what that means or even if I should be concerned, or if it is related, the noise isn't bad but noticeable.

What are your thoughts?

I took it by my mechanic (Snapfinger Auto) BEST MECHANICS IN ATL - WOOT - WOOT

In less than 5 minutes Doyle realized it was the ENGINE HOIST BRACKET rattling against the engine. Bent it out, and BING - BANG - BOOM - Problem sovled.

Everyone had good ideas, and I thank you!

Have you pinpointed the source of the ticking noise?

If the check engine light works and it isn't on while the engine is running, don't worry about the monitor test results.

Re: Tinkling noise when idle or pressing the gas Sign In

Still not sure what the tinkling is, but I don't want to mess with anything since it the car is running fine, gets good gas mileage and recently passed emissions. So I'm just looking for opinions.

I am actually trying to get used to driving a truck (manual 5 speed) since this is my first one I have owned. (Drove a Chevy when I worked for AAA). The sounds and feel is different than a car & I LIKE IT

I am very inclined to respect your advice and let is be, but I am more curious than anything else. Cool

I will have my mechanic check it out, Pep Boys said it was fine, but I had to use them because I wasn't in my home town when I bought the car.

I'll see what they say about the noise, just to be certain.
