Hello.
I have a 1994 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 Liter with 78,000 miles. It has a manual transmission and rear wheel drive. It is mainly stock except for a catback exhaust and a cold air intake.
This last weekend I began hearing this gurgling, or slurping (drinking from end of a glass through a straw), sound from the rear passenger side of the car. I noticed it initially when I was sitting at a row of stop lights and accelerated in between each one. When I accelerated, this noise happened. It has continued ever since. It is mostly after switching gears and upon first accelerating from a stop.
I will accelerate in first gear and hear the noise, then it will usually disappear until after I shift to second and start accelerating again. It happens in short, 2 second-max intervals. I am not aware that it has happened when I am going at or over 35 miles per hour. However, the car may be too loud at that point and the gurgling more faint, I do not know. It does not happen going over speed bumps, and usually not because I turn a corner (which leads me to suspect it is not chassis-related?).
I have listened to the fuel pump and it does not sound abnormal from how it always has. I hear the normal sound when it primes the car and healthy whrrr sound when it is running. This does not necessarily mean it is not part of the problem.
I do not know much about the rear of the car and the fuel system back there to be able to guess what it would be. It is also hard to diagnose since I have to be moving to hear it. Just for your info, I have asked other people and they suggest it may be a vacuum leak, bad fuel filter, baffle in my tank, or a clogged tank vent.

Update:
I am actually absolutely sure it comes from the rear, passenger side. I even can be precise as to say the passenger side of the gas tank (area)
I just took out the car again. It is a rattly, gurgly type sound, but more gurgly. It happens especially when I accelerate slowly in first gear. Also happens when I punch the gas in second gear.

Thanks for the reply Tom.
It does not change anything. It happened (started) from 1/4 of tank to nearly empty, and I just refilled it to full today and it still happens.

OK: By your initial description of the sucking gurgling sound I was thinking something fuel lines/pump perhaps filter related on that idea. There is an evaporative emission system and fuel should be circulating to keep it cool and I was thinking amount of fuel could change that sound if fuel related at all. BTW - try hard not to run below 1/4 as it's hard on fuel pump which is still on my mind.

Notes/thoughts: There's gear oil in differential, oil in shock/strut cartridge (should do that just bouncing on rear while still if so??) and a maybe for a fault with exhaust that can somehow make the sound but gurgling isn't generally one of them.
Not sure what the tail pipe set up is on this. Is it one pipe that splits to two? If so maybe you could try plugging one somehow as a test or tap on the parts with a rubber hammer to see if there's a change.
Gas tank (I here so I never did cut one open with torches to look ) has baffles to prevent sloshing and the parts to hold the fuel pump, strainer, gauge etc., inside.
If all else fails you may need to take it down to look inside?? Is there a chance something stored like washer fluid back there is the culprit?
