Scraping/rubbing sound

2003 Chevy Cavalier. Not sure on the engine size, but it has about 150,000KM
My 2003 Cav is making a nasty scraping/rubbing sound every time I park, leave a parking spot or make turns at slow speeds. I only started to notice the sound after winter set in.
I have a mechanic appointment in a week, but I need to use the car every day until then. I'm really broke, and I need this car running well for me job
Any idea what the problem might be, and if it's serious enough for me to stop driving it until I can get it officially checked?

Nobody is going to know until somebody inspects it. We can answer technical questions but we can't see your car.

Like HT said, the car needs to be looked at. There are numerous things that can cause that, ranging from a warning sensor to something very serious that needs to be addressed immediately. Only an inspection well tell you what you are looking at.
You live in a big city, there has got to be a chain store or other shop that has late hours or you make the time to get it looked at tomorrow. This could be a problem that if it is taken care of now could mean the difference in hundreds/thousands of dollars & days/weeks of down time. Just because you don't know what it is doesn't make it ok to continue to drive.....
You posted you need this car for your job but are low on funds. Now this problem may only cost you a days work and a few hundred dollars, burn up a tranny or engine, you be in the thousands and you will be needing to find a way to work for more than just a day or 2.
Don't take this as me jumping on you, it just a little frustration. This year I've had a slew of major jobs where the people continued to drive cars with problems going on and wound up ruining engines and transmissions that would've be very minor repairs if they were looked at right away.
It's just tough seeing single parents in tears because they just trashed their only means of transportation with no way of fixing it or getting another car.. The common theme was always "I didn't know, If I knew I wouldn't of kept driving it". What am I suppose to do or say at that point????? I feel very sorry for their new situation but I can't wave a wand & go back in time.
It's just frustration seeing folks in tough situations putting themselves it way worse situation where honestly.... if some common sense would've been used they would've been looking at a $300 to $600 repair instead of a $4000 repair.

As said this needs to be checked now by a tech if only to know how urgent it is. IMO - if this makes noise just pulling out of a parking space I wouldn't wait another day,
