Opel 2010 Astra Noise at front left side Sign In

Hi all. Been having some serious trouble with a noise (sounds like a rattle) in the passenger (front) side of my car. It generally can only be heard when going above 100kph or in very windy conditions. I had a garage take a look at it and they thought it was due to a loose front foglight. They fixed this and the noise seemed to disappear for a week or so. However it has now returned. The foglight is still fixed in place. So I'm just wondering could this be something completely different?

By nature noises are tricky to describe and can be elusive to find. A wind related noise as well as speed you are going begs some tests. Had one that eluded several shops and ended up in my hands. Heard it myself and had time to try stuff.

I started with painter's tape (a tape that is intended to remove without leaving a sticky mess) sealing up the windshield first which was the problem so it ended there.

I would do that again with seams wherever that is harmless for the test and see if you can make it go away. If a place sealed does stop this then you concentrate there of course.

Who knows but splash shields or water seals, the air dam under front bumpers, grille parts or anything. Seems crazy but a wind noise can sound like assorted noises of a whistle, flapping or other. The noise could also travel such that it actually comes from the other side you think you hear it from.

Tricky stuff if nothing obvious shows itself,

T
